Macalester College is an academically rigorous, highly selective, undergraduate liberal arts college enrolling 2,000 students from around the world (93 countries and all of the United States).  Centrally located in the major metropolitan area of Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota, Macalester students have easy access to internships in scientific research, economics, business, medicine, the arts, and a variety of other professions.  The College’s attractive campus is located in a safe, quiet residential neighborhood of tree-lined streets with a variety of shops and restaurants nearby.  Most students live on campus, but also spend a considerable amount of time volunteering and participating in events in the surrounding city.

There are 38 degree programs available in the natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, fine arts, and pre-professional areas.  Included are strong programs in math, computer science, economics, international studies, biology, and environmental studies along with dual-degree programs in engineering and architecture.  Macalester’s 10:1 student-faculty ratio ensures that students have substantial interaction with highly qualified professors in classes that average only 18 students.  Students often work closely with faculty on research projects that larger universities might reserve only for their graduate students. Graduates of Macalester have significant success in gaining admission to top graduate and professional schools in the U.S. as well as other countries.
