Global Engagement Program is a newly started program in University of Michigan since this semester. The purpose of this program is “to seek collaborative efficiencies and best practices in processes and procedures across the university on international engagement activities.” It gives an opportunity for each student of UM to nominate someone (UM staff member or faculty) who has had a positive impact on his or her international experience.

Students have never had this opportunity in the past at UM for recognition of someone such a UM staff member or faculty member regards to having an impact on their international experience. I took the chance and nominated Cindy Gould who has been the International Admissions and Recruiting Coordinator for over 25 years. She did make a great impact “on my way here”. Eventually, Cindy won the award among all the honorees. On November 15th, I was asked to attend the reception for the global engage program. There were around 120 people who attended the reception on that day. I did not even know I need to present the award to her and make a speech about 10 minutes in front of around 100 professors from different departments. But eventually I made it.
